Character Design
My character design focus is diversity and colour composition. I love to play with poses, character and personality and how those colours can help the mind to understand more about the character we cannot see.Use
Many of my designs are used for varying mediums, such as animated films, hand-drawn comics and for branding.Software
I work in a variety of software to create these designs, but mostly use Clip Studio Paint & Adobe Photoshop.
Mascot Design
This is the mascot character for my branding titled 'Splatter' who is made to resemble a splat of paint against the ground
Animated Film Character Design
These characters were designed to be used for a 2D animated film, with some examples below of how they looked in the final render of the film atop backgrounds
Concept Character Design
These are character design and turnarounds sheets for different concepts I have explored for films, comics and other creative media
Challenge Inspired Character Design
These characters were created from the "three random emoji" challenge where you create a character inspired by the randomly generated emojis. This started as a character sketch that turned into a set of characters who run a tourist trap café together
Background Design
The background design I create tends to be more focused on bedrooms and living spaces filled to the brim with clutter and personality. I tend to use lots of coloured lighting to indicate mood and atmosphere, along with weather and time of day.Use
Many of my backgrounds have been created for use in animated films, comics and for unique illustrations.Software
I work exclusively in 2D for backgrounds, drawing each one by hand using Clip Studio Paint and Adobe Photoshop
Animated Film Background Design
These backgrounds were designed to be used for a 2D animated film, with 3 different scenes located in different spaces: a bedroom, a field and the interior of a castle
Illustration Background Design
These backgrounds were designed for a series of illustrations which explored different environments, such as bedrooms, small villages and street corners. I love how environments can create a story even without a character in it to follow.
Animation
My animations have a lot of range, but I mainly focus in character based animation, experimenting a lot with expression. I love to animate quiet moments with small shifts of animation, such as paper flowing in the air or hair blowing in the wind.Achievements
I have worked on multiple animated projects, having fully created a short animated film titled 'Be My Player 2' where I wrote, directed, animated and edited an entire 2 minute short entirely by myself.
This film was nominated for the RTS (Royal Television Society) student award for Animation in 2023Software
Within animation I work best using the 2D animation software Toon Boom Harmony, but have also worked within others like the Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro software.
This reel contains animations I have created from 2021 to 2023 created using Harmony Toon Boom, Photoshop and Clip Studio Paint
Below I have added more animations and details about my past projects and creations
Be My Player 2
These animations are snippets taken from my animated thesis film I created in my final year at University. It has been nominated for many awards and have been shared at Film Festivals and broadcast at film screenings across the UK
To watch my short film in its entirety , you can access it by finding it on youtube here
Small Animated Gifs
Within my work as a freelance artist, I work alongside many twitch streamers to make art and animations for their social media as: emotes to be used on Twitch, gifs to promote stream on twitter or instagram, and to be added to branding portfolios.
Fairytale
Based on the Japanese franchise Danganronpa by Spike Chunsoft, I created a short animation featuring the characters and story set to the song Fairytale by Alexander Rybak. This was never completed, but was a way of experimenting with a limited colour pallet
Unique Projects
These animations are the final results of different projects I made for different briefs. The first, a project to animate "movement" with my source of inspiration being a stubborn yoga mat.And the second following a strict brief from the Sheffield Hallam University iLab, using their branding colours to create an advertisement for how they help students.
Illustration
As a freelance Illustrator, I have developed a style that is recognizable and unique to me, while also allowing me the creativity to mimic other styles and influences for fun.Where I use these skills
I have been illustrating for as long as I was able to pick up a pen, but have been illustrating professionally since 2019, working with many unique clients to create custom artwork to their specifications.Software
Within Illustration I have used many software, starting on MS Paint, Paint tool Sai and Gimp. Eventually moving to my current software Clip Studio Paint and the occasional use of Photoshop.
Branding Colour Prints
These illustrations are my original works of art to be used as physical prints that are printed and sold at conventions and artists markets and stalls. Displaying skills in abstract, portrait and landscape illustration
Fan Prints
In July 2023, I took part in a makers market in Sheffield, where I got to create original and fan-created designs to be sold as physical prints. These are a collection of some of these prints I created based on different popular media, from games to tv shows.
Pride themed Polaroids
As a fun and unique way to celebrate pride month in 2023, I created a series of small print designs inspired by different landscapes using different flags in the LGBTQ+ community. Being part of the community, I've found lots of success with these designs and had a blast making them.
